Day 1: Central Illinois

Hello all! I was concerned about having the time to share the details of my weekend vacation, but here I am in the airport with a delayed flight, so I'll just take advantage of the spare time :) I'm going to split this up into three parts, Central Illinois, Chicago and a shop update of things I found on the trip!

Illinois is a whole new state for me to visit! I've been to quite a few, but nothing very centrally located on the map. I learned a tooon of new things:

#1. There is SO MUCH corn. Call me ignorant, but I didn't even know they had corn in Illinois. When I think of corn, I think of Iowa. The amount of corn in this place blows my mind.

#2. Central Illinois drivers are the worst. I know it sounds like a generalization, but really, they are... I wish I could say this is based on fact and not just opinion, but I've done the research and apparently, they're really not that bad. BUT almost every car has a dent in it. And that should tell you something.

#3,4&5. The people of Central Illinois do not love vintage. Or floral print. Or have any tact. In fact, they'll even point, laugh and shout things like "NICE OUTFIT!", "WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?!" and "NICE DRESS, IDIOT!".

(On a side note, my sister accidentally turned my camera filter when taking these photos. At first I was bummed, but I think they turned out sort of neat!)

#6. There's no speed limit in Central Illinois. For the first two days, I literally saw three speed limit signs. They were all for 35 MPH and everyone drove 60. (Reference #2)

#7. If a hotel cost less than $70/night, you don't want to stay there. Trust me. You might find notes in the room that suggest that you "don't let anyone in" or "don't wear flashy jewelry".

#8. Last, but not least, there's a reason Sufjan Stevens doesn't have any songs about Bloomington, IL. There is absolutely nothing going on here! But it sure is pretty :)

Hahaha love it... I completely agree with what you said about hotels.. How can people not like vintage?! That is insane!
